Jean Ruestman is the Administrator of the Office of Passenger Transportation (OPT) for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) where she has worked for over 30 years. In her current position at MDOT she oversees the state’s public transportation programs and provides strategic direction for navigating the quickly evolving mobility ecosystem. OPT administers state and federal funds and provides technical assistance for local transit, ferry and intercity bus providers across the state. She has expanded OPT's role in new technology and mobility innovations to facilitate the adoption by local transit agencies. She has led several mobility challenges aimed at resolving mobility gaps in an equitable and sustainable manner.
Jean is vice chair of the American Association of State Highway Official's Council on Public Transportation and was previously co-chair of the Transportation Research Board’s Standing Committee on Innovative Public Transportation Services and Technologies. Jean is also on the Policy Committe for the Automated Bus Consortium and serves on several national transit technology working groups aimed at advancing the state of the industry.
