Jerry received a BS and an MS degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2008 and 2011, respectively. He began his career at Southwest Research Institute in 2011, and he has worked on a range of on-road and off-road autonomy programs including buses; forklifts; golf carts; and military platforms such as the U.S. Army standard autonomy suite, the Robotic Technology Kernel (RTK), and its predecessors. He was also a founding member of a project to bring collaborative software development concepts into military robotics. His areas of expertise include mapping, navigation, and system architecture for intelligent unmanned vehicle systems. His specific experience involves path planning and system behaviors for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), search operations involving unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and higher-level concerns within autonomy such as architecture, testing, and policy. Jerry serves on the ROS 2 Technical Steering Committee and the Automated Vehicles committee of the Intelligent Transportation Society of America.
