Developing a Sustainable and Inclusive Mobility Hub in Christchurch, New Zealand

Abstract

Talk Description

Institution: Jacobs - VIC, Australia

Jacobs has been working with Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency to develop a concept of operations for a mobility hub in Aranui, Christchurch. The location and the design of the hub is being developed with specific objectives around increasing the uptake of sustainable modes such as electric vehicles and micromobility, as well as increasing accessibility for under-represented groups including Māori. Aranui itself experiences low average incomes, poor education outcomes and higher than average crime rates. Working with the community and shared mobility industry, the project looks to use future mobility to drive better community outcomes through improved transport connectivity in the local area, as well as creating a model for future mobility hubs in the ANZ region.

Our presentation will outline the steps taken to develop our concept of operations including:
  • Choosing a location for the mobility hub
  • Community engagement and co-design
  • Modular development of the hub’s components
  • Costings and operational considerations
  • Opportunities and challenges identified across the project
