The development of autonomous driving has the potential to reduce human error and make roads safer, but it faces limitations in replicating human judgment and responding to all situations. The implementation of this technology raises complex ethical questions, requiring consideration of technical, legal, social and personal values. In contrast, drunk driving is a serious illegal act that seriously endangers public safety and health and causes loss of life and property.
The Swedish government and people attach great importance to traffic safety, including flexible driver's license exams, risk courses, heavy fines and criminal penalties for violators, which is a notable example. Additionally, the EU has introduced Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA) and Advanced Driver Distraction Warning (ADDW) systems to reduce fatalities and serious injuries, although they are not mandatory. This study leverages inertial measurement unit (IMU) data and machine learning to identify dangerous driving patterns with the ultimate goal of achieving zero fatalities and eradicating drunk driving through widespread adoption of autonomous driving.
