BreakOut Session 06: Data Ecosystems

Talk Description

Institution: Keolis Downer Yarra Trams - VIC, Australia

Keolis Downer (operator of Yarra Trams) has collaborated with HOVE to implement a data visualisation platform, developed through the creation of a patronage model that employs a high quantity of anonymised GPS phone traces.
This presentation will focus on the valuable and fascinating findings made in Keolis Downer’s first ever use of this data.
By leveraging this technology, Keolis Downer gained insights into travel patterns, identified service change opportunities and gained a better understanding of the needs of our users.
This presentation will share how this data improved knowledge of the multimodal travel habits of passengers, identified areas of high demand, monitored changes in travel patterns over time, analysed impacts of different events on public transport usage and gleaned information on how users travel to and from tram stops.
Additionally, we will discuss how the platform can guide and inform future planning and decision-making.
Keolis Downer will share the results of analysis; discuss the implications and challenges for public transport management; and demonstrate how emerging technologies can further enhance public transport.
