Talk Description
Institution: Lynxx - NSW, Australia
Despite the availability of live traffic data from various sources, including connected vehicles, roadside sensors, and mobile applications, transport network operators are not fully leveraging this data to enhance their operations and improve traveller experience. In this presentation, we will discuss how untapped live traffic data (via advanced analytics) can be used to generate operational insights that enable better decision-making in managing roads and public transport networks.
The first part of the presentation will focus on the collection and processing of existing data sources which are generally considered too complex to use. We will discuss how real-time traffic data that is largely untapped can be used for operational purposes.
The second part of the presentation will delve into the operational use of these data for road and public transport operations. We will demonstrate how real-time data can be made used in sensible ways to optimise decision making for networks, rather than relying on traditional 'sample and report' style approaches to modelling. We will include a couple of cases from around Australia.
In conclusion, we believe that live traffic data has enormous potential to transform the way we manage roads and public transport networks. By unlocking the insights hidden in these data, we can make more efficient and effective decisions, leading to better traveller experiences and ultimately, more sustainable and livable cities.
