Talk Description

Institution: Transmax - QLD, Australia

Transmax and the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads are working together to develop and implement a multi-modal transport network situational awareness tool. STREAMS Common Operational View is an intelligent real-time situational awareness tool that provides multi-modal transport network visibility by identifying, comprehending, and creating network intelligence for transport operations and network management.

This tool will support those in transport operations who need real-time situational awareness of their multi-modal transport network, including:
- Traffic Operators: Gain awareness of potential disruptions to the road users so that this can be acted upon
- Network Optimisers and Disruptive Event Managers: Gain awareness required to optimise the network to minimise congestion and improve traffic flow.
- Passenger Transport Operators: Gain awareness of impacts on passenger transport services, so that public transport users can be updated.

Through data integration, this situational awareness tool provides:
- A single source of truth for multi-modal transport network visibility
- Real-time situational awareness of emergency responders, devices on the network, and traffic data
- Faster detection of incidents: This will result in faster response and decrease congestion and other impacts.
- Network intelligence by actively monitoring, reactively comprehending, and proactively suggesting insights on the transport network.
- Greater communication to the public of network conditions, enabling more informed travel decisions.
- Improved workflows to manage disruptions to the network.

The tool is being tested in TMR Traffic Management Centres (TMC). It will continue to evolve and introduce new functionality based on customers’ needs and maximise outcomes for road users.
