The Centre-to-Centre (C2C) Interface is the strategic communication channel currently connecting 11 Motorways and multiple internal TfNSW & TMC Systems. C2C provides the incident and traffic data exchange for coordinated management of the NSW motorway network and allows control of ITS devices such as VMS on the adjacent motorways. The goal of the C2C Interface is to provide a consistent driving experience irrespective of whether travelling on a state-controlled road or a private motorway.
With major infrastructure projects in NSW, C2C in recent times has seen significant growth of new private and public motorways and internal TfNSW system nodes. This has placed a lot of pressure on resources performing various testing activities and potentially impacting program timelines. The criticality of C2C has increased over time with these new integrations. Currently these various testing activities are performed manually. TfNSW objective is to optimize and accelerate end-to-end testing of the entire C2C landscape including regression testing by removing any resource and test environments bottlenecks and any program timelines risks. This will allow re-use of automated test cases for future motorway integration test execution.
TfNSW started an initiative to implement a Test Automation framework to uplift the current C2C Interface testing capability. This includes extensive and thorough testing of various scenarios, providing sandbox environment in early design phases, automated compliance checking, identifying critical issues and improving regression testing of changes to connected motorways. This resulted in faster and reliable test execution, acceleration of feedback cycles, improved stakeholder visibility, quantifiable acceptance criteria and unattended scheduled test case execution.
