Unlocking customer benefits to Victoria's public transport ticketing system

Abstract

Talk Description

Institution: The Victorian Department of Transport and Planning - Australia

Improvements are being delivered to Victoria's public transport ticketing system ito make travel easier and more convenient.
The Future Public Transport Ticketing Program will deliver a new ticketing solution across the network, which will unlock a range of convenient new payment methods for customers.
It will deliver a range of modern customer features based on account-based technology - the contemporary standard in global cities.
This will see the progressive rollout of additional convenient ways for people to pay for their travel, including ‘tap and go’ credit cards, digital watches, and apple and google pay. The new payment options will be in addition to the existing myki payment options (myki card and mobile myki).
The new solution aims to meet customer expectations and the challenges of the transport network, while facilitating a more efficient way to collect ~$13 billion in fare revenues.
The new account-based ticketing back office will also be future-proofed to potentially link to new mobility services and digital applications in future.
Under the new ticketing contract, the State's new ticketing supplier will continue to operate the existing myki system while testing and introducing new features in parallel, which will be progressively rolled-out statewide to include areas in regional Victoria that are currently not served by myki.
This will not be a sudden introduction of a brand-new system, but rather a progressive roll-out of new payment solutions in addition to the existing options available through myki, aimed to deliver customer benefits across metropolitan and regional areas.
