Following successful on-road trials of connected and automated vehicles in Australia based on Safety Management Plans (SMP) developed by ARRB over the 2015-2020 period and reported at 2019 ITS World Congress,  this presentation will report on the ARRB’s subsequent progress in the extension of the SMP framework into other domains such as the military and agriculture sectors with the Australian Army (autonomous leader-follower convoy) and Meat and Livestock Australia (autonomous bunk bot). These developments are leading the way to a harmonised approach in enabling safe operations of automated driving systems across Australia’s land transport domains. Details of the SMPs for Army and MLA and the underlying SMP framework will be presented, and the learnings shared.
