ITS Architecture for an Open and Interoperable Intelligent Transport System Deployment

Abstract

Talk Description

Institution: Main Roads Western Australia, Seisma Group - WA, Australia

Technology trends in transportation and benchmarks of leading countries and cities tells us that Government Authorities require a robust ITS Architecture to ensure they are aligned with future innovations. Lack of correct structures and procedures in these areas can impact on several Facets.

To ensue interoperability, open integration and above all alignment to International Best Practice Main Roads are currently establishing the Main Roads of Western Australia ITS Architecture Framework. This Architecture provides a definitive and consistent framework to guide the planning and deployment of ITS. It facilitates the ability of Main Roads to operate collaboratively and to harness the benefits of a regional approach to transportation challenges.

The ITS Architecture development will continue the evolution to incorporate technological developments and evolving user needs with a particular focus on ITS requirements. It will provide deployment support for all agencies to assist with development, maintenance, and improvement of their ITS along with compliance with applicable regulations.

This presentation will highlight the development process for Main Roads ITS Architecture and how the needs of the stakeholders are being met ensuring ITS is built, operated, and maintained and the ITS services we implement are fit for purpose.

The presentation will be of interest to
-       Transportation engineers and planners who can use the Main Roads ITS Architecture to support inclusion of ITS strategies and services into the overall transportation planning process; and
-       Suppliers who can use the Main Roads ITS Architecture to provide initial definition of ITS projects and the integration needs that accompany projects. It will assist in project developers being able to identify and use aspects of the ITS Architecture such as customized service package diagrams, functional requirements, and ITS standards to support the project development efforts.
