Talk Description
Institution: Transport Certification Australia - VIC, Australia
Transport authorities are increasingly looking to support the uptake of innovative transport technologies and data services, particularly where they can deliver improved societal outcomes from our transport systems. In Australia, the National Telematics Framework has continued to evolve to enable industry deployment of innovative solutions and to meet the demands of government authorities. One recent example is the pairing of vehicle movement monitoring with on-board axle mass measurements – a world first for a regulated application – which enables improved road access for high productivity vehicles and greater protection for vulnerable road assets. Another example is the provision of authoritative route data to support informed access decisions by authorities and provide vehicle specific turn-by-turn navigation for operators. Various other innovative applications have been raised for future inclusion in the Framework, including to support the introduction of electrification and automation to road transport, and also connectivity across multiple modes of transport. The presentation will provide details on how the Framework has evolved, and on a variety of recent and emerging innovative applications that it enables.
