Talk Description
Institution: GHD - Australia
While Traffic Management Centres have existed for a number of decades now, the system complexity and breadth of delivered functions has been slowly increasing over this time. This requires a greater understanding of the different components that need to be in place to run a successful Motorway operation, centred around the Traffic Management Centre (TMC).
To support getting a better understanding of what good practice looks like, Austroads commissioned GHD to prepare a Best Practice Guide for Smart Motorway Operations. This talk will provide some key highlights from the completed guide, ranging from a new approach to classifying smart motorways, how training and competency play an important role in a 24/7 operation, through to how operations teams can interact with the planning and project teams to improve operations handovers.
